We shifted the District culture to a belief in each student's ability to achieve in all aspects: social- emotional learning, community life, and career readiness.
Significantly increased dual enrollment college courses/career technical education pathways (15 total) in partnership with 3 community colleges to include a new Ag STEM pathway with an AA degree option upon high school graduation and transfer to CSU. Recognized for equity and increased participation in Advance Placement, Dual Enrollment and CTE courses.
COLLEGE FUTURES MONTEREY COUNTY (CFMC) SCHOLARSHIPS
Our North County students have once again been awarded scholarships! Of the 17 students in Monterey County who were awarded scholarships, 6 of them were from North Monterey County High School. These exceptional students were honored with scholarships each recipient received $4,000 for their first year, and this amount is renewable annually for a total of four years, resulting in a cumulative sum of $16,000 over their academic journey. In total, our North County students have accumulated an impressive $96,000 in scholarship funds through this scholarship established by the Diamond family.
NMCHS Scholarship Award Banquet celebrated the Class of 2023 Scholarship Awardees which have totaled up to over $235,000 local scholarships.
Honoring the NC Team for 100% Financial Aid Completion
Our NC team put in an immense amount of effort to ensure that students and their families had every opportunity to complete their FAFSA/CADAA application. They divided themselves to give presentations in classrooms, where students were able to register and create their pins. Furthermore, the team hosted several Financial Aid Parent Nights and provided 1:1 appointments to students and parents as necessary with the college and career readiness team: College & Career Counselor, Student Advisor & Coordinator of Services, College Partner for EAOP Program, College Partner for ETS Program, College Partner for Upward Bound Program, College Partner Intern for Upward Bound, Work-Based Learning and College & Career Specialist, and the Administrator for Guidance Counseling & Career Readiness
Dell Scholarship
Emanuel Maciel received the $20,000 Dell Scholarship & committed to UC Berkeley. The Dell Scholarship awards 500 students in the nation, Emanuel being 1 of those 500 who will begin his college journey with $20,000 and a new Dell Laptop.
Stanford University and QuestBridge Make A Dream Come True
Senior at North Monterey County High School, Daisy Gonzalez Rivera was awarded the highly competitive QuestBridge Scholarship and matched to Stanford University with a full ride scholarship. The QuestBridge Scholarship's goal is to connect low-income and first-gen students with partner colleges and universities. This year QuestBridge awarded 1,755 students in the nation making Daisy one of those students! Daisy will be the first in her family to graduate from high school and now will be the first to attend a four year college. Being first generation, low-income, and the oldest in her family Daisy has endured many obstacles, however she did not let it stand in her way to become a future Stanford University student who will be majoring in Mathematics. Daisy’s story was also featured on Univision News Channel 67, where Daisy and her parents were interviewed by Adriana Federick Sutton and segmented on the 6:00PM and 11:00PM news.
The Annual Condor Showcase
North Monterey County High School Condors held their annual Condor Showcase where 200+ parents and community members joined and got to meet their future teachers, and college partners, and learn information about graduation requirements. Teachers showcased student work to families, which included our CTE (Career Technical Education) pathways and core classes.

The NMC SkillsUSA hosted a Regional Recognition Ceremony to acknowledge the participation and achievements of its members. With 63 students competing at the regionals this year, 40 of them will proceed to the State Leadership & Skill Competition in Ontario, CA.
NMCHS Skills USA Team is Heads to State and Nationals
40 of our 74 North Monterey County High School CTE Skills USA students who competed across several different contest areas at the Region 2 SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference and qualified to compete at the State level.
Our student, Paige Williamson, advanced and traveled, along with teacher/Skills USA Advisor, Jonathan Sandoval, to Atlanta, Georgia for the National Skills USA Leadership Competition. Paige competed with other Skills USA State Finalists in Photography! This prestigious event brings together the finest State Finalists from across the nation, and Paige showcased her exceptional talent and expertise in the field of Photography.
Monterey County CTE Student of the Year and Grand Prize Winner of Technology and Productivity
Elijah Olaeta was granted well-deserved recognition as the CTE Student of the Year for North Monterey County High School, commending his remarkable accomplishments within the Engineering Pathway. Similarly, Ernesto Duarte Hernandez was acknowledged as the esteemed Grand Prize Winner in the Technology and Productivity section of the CTE Showcase, demonstrating unparalleled excellence through his remarkable Computer Science project.
NMCUSD secures STEM/sustainability CCAP grant of $1.2 million ($300,000 annually) to serve all three high schools by adding a 2+2 dual enrollment Ag Plant Science coursework to obtain an AA degree with Hartnell College upon high school and transfer to CSUMB. These include college level Chemistry, Economics, Soil Science, Elementary Statistics, and Plant Science and college level Counseling Student Success courses. Career Ladders Project has been appointed by the California Department of Education to provide technical assistance.
CTE Teacher, Matt Maurin Certified Welder Instructor
Matt Maurin, our Manufacturing Product Development CTE Teacher at NMCHS attended the NC3 Lincoln Electric Train the Trainers for Four Process Welding in Cleveland, OH from November 14-18 and is now certified to train and issue certifications to students in Welding Safety, Principles of Welding, Introduction and Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Introduction and Advanced Flux Cored Arc Welding FCAW), and Introduction and Advanced Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). In addition, his program was just awarded a $5,000 grant from Airgas for some new welding equipment.
College & Career Center are in the Workshop Zone
Our lead Academic Coordinator/Counselor who coordinates the College and Career Center has provided numerous workshops and in- class presentations for our North Monterey County High School Seniors. Two financial aid workshops by Monterey Bay Peninsula College and California State University Monterey Bay representatives supported seniors and families with their financial aid applications. California State University of Monterey Bay presented to all seniors and gave an overview of the admission process and benefits of the CSU System. We are grateful for the partnerships and support from our local colleges/universities. Lastly, a Spanish Hartnell Presentation workshop was hosted to support our English Learners to receive direct information with a Hartnell representative.

An Unforgettable Youth Ambassador Retreat InspireD Civic Engagement and Impactful Initiatives
Through diverse team-building activities, like a kayaking trip made possible by the Wahine Project, they strengthened their bonds. The retreat emphasized the importance of civic engagement and exposed them to successful community initiatives, inspiring their own future projects. In an exciting development, the youth ambassadors took the initiative to form self-selected committees, igniting their passion and creativity for planning impactful projects in the upcoming academic year. We eagerly anticipate the transformation these young leaders will bring to our community. The Moss Landing Research Facility provided the perfect environment for fostering inspiration, learning, and cooperation among our youth ambassadors. We're grateful to all who made this retreat possible and look forward to the remarkable initiatives that will blossom, driven by the dedication of these exceptional youth ambassadors.
NMC Middle School “Phoenix” Receives The CA State Civic Engagement Award 2023
At the California School Recognition Program Awards in Anaheim, CA, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond presented to NMCUSD the award for providing high-quality educational experiences and preparing students to succeed in developing 21st Century Skills as outlined in the State’s Seal of Civic Engagement program.
MESA Program (Math, Engineering, Science Academy)
Congratulations Phoenix! We are thrilled to extend our congratulations to the Middle School MESA team for their impressive performance at the regional tournament. Nancy Aguirre, Anaiyah Ramirez, and Allison Torres secured an exceptional third place for their exceptional glider design. Meanwhile, Damian Madrigal and Brendon Offield emerged as first place champions, achieving an impressive 55-foot launch. Adding to the team's accolades, Allison Torres claimed the third place for Coding Solutions. We couldn't be prouder of these innovative Phoenix engineers!
